The temple of an eternal flame Ateshgyakh – the most true Azerbaijani exotic. About it know practically around the world. It is located in 30 km from the center of Baku, on the suburb of the settlement of Surakhana. This territory is known for such unique natural phenomenon as the burning exits of natural gas (gas, escaping outside, adjoins to oxygen and lights up). In a modern look the temple was built in the XVII-XVIII centuries. It was built by the Baku-based Hindu community related to Sikhs. However, the history of the Temple is even longer. From times immemorial this was the holy place of Zoroastrians- fire worshippers (approximately beginning of our era). They attributed mystical significance to the inextinguishable fire and came there to worship the relic. After the introduction of Islam Zoroastrian temple was destroyed. Many Zoroastrians left to India and there continued their worship. But in the 15th -17th centuries the Hindus-fire worshippers who came to Absheron with trading caravans began to make pilgrimages to Surakhany. The Indian merchants started erection of the temple. The earliest temple part is dated 1713. The latest - the central temple-altar was built with the support of merchant Kanchangar in 1810. During the 18th century chapels, cells, a caravanserai were added to the central part of the temple. On у can find carved inscriptions in Indian lettering there.

Also we  saw Yanardag, a mountain with natural eternal fire and a large number of unique historical monuments: temples, castles, fortresses and watchtowers of the Middle Centuries.

Departure to Lankaran is an amazingly beautiful city-port on the shore of the Caspian Sea, practically on the border with Iran. One of the most ancient cities of Azerbaijan. The time of its foundation, however, is unknown. It is only certain that he was part of the Caucasian Albania, and in the 18th century was the center of the Talish Khanate. During the Russo-Persian War, Lankaran was destroyed by the Persians, who built a fortress here. In 1813 Russian troops stormed Lenkoran, after which the city became part of the Russian Empire.

The city itself is interesting with the Lankaran fortress (XVIII century) and the Kichik-Bazar mosque (XIX century). In 100 km. North of Lenkoran lies one of the most beautiful cities of the Middle Ages - Hanega, where fortified walls (XII-XIV centuries), the mosque and burial vault of Pir Hussein, the minaret and other ancient structures are preserved.

The city lies in the subtropics, which makes it one of the best balneological resorts in the country.

 “Excursion Sheki City Tour”

The Sheki area is one of the most interesting, original and beautiful regions of Azerbaijan. The administrative center of the area – the city of Sheka – one of the most ancient cities of Azerbaijan, is located on picturesque southern slopes of Big Caucasian ridge against snow tops.

Sheki are called by right the architectural reserve of the republic. The particular interest causes the palace of Sheki khans (1762) in tourists – a rare example of a combination of national architecture to traditions of palace architecture. On design and internal furniture it will be difficult to find the second palace similar to it. It is known that at construction of the palace it wasn’t used uniform nailing. The mosaic in it is executed in national style to a shebeka (ornament by color glasses).

The ancient Albanian temple, unique ancient monument, is in the oldest of places of Azerbaijan – the village of Kish stretched near Sheki. Emergence of the temple is dated the 1st century AD, time when the territory of Azerbaijan was included into the Caucasian part of Albania. Historians assume that the temple was founded by the apostle Eliseus who brought Christianity to Albania. Eliseus, having received itself in destiny the East and having directed a way from Jerusalem to Persia, and started preaching with three pupils. However soon he underwent persecutions and arrived to Kish where arranged church and made a bloodless sacrifice. During blossoming of Christian religion in this territory the temple was very visited, however further was thrown and simply by miracle escaped till our times.

Even today the temple strikes with the beauty. Its bright red roof spike as if «burns» on the sun. On a high dome the cross is represented. Thick walls of the temple as if are decorated with small windows. In the temple cool even in the hottest weather, and air here as if it is impregnated with antiquity and divine spirit
